Purpose

We consider ourselves blessed to have been discipled and mentored by many people we deeply admire, but not all of whom we have known personally. We have not been able to sit down with them over a cup of tea, with notebook and pen in hand, as they teach us what God has taught them. In fact some have lived in centuries past, but still, their lives speak into ours. They have become our mentors, our friends, and our heroes!

How has this happened? This has happened as they have spoken into our lives through their own writings or through biographies written about them.

And now we want to introduce them to you.

History is filled with men and women who did incredible things for the kingdom of God. In Hebrews 11 we can read about some of these men and women. And in Hebrews 12 it says that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses and are exhorted to run our race with endurance, keeping our eyes on Jesus. When we see lives lived for Jesus, we find ourselves wanting to follow their example. We are reminded of Paul’s words, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” (1 Corinthians. 11:1) When we read of these godly men and women, we are encouraged toward living set-apart lives. Their lives display the hand of God at work and give us courage to keep going. They show that God does great things through broken, yet surrendered people.

God’s Word also warns us. It warns us that, from the seeds that we sow into our lives, we will one day reap a harvest (Galatians 6:7-8). Don’t we all desire that our lives would be for the glory of God and for the furthering of His purposes? We want our lives to produce a good harvest. Scripture reminds us that the value of the harvest depends largely upon the kind of seeds sown. We believe that the influences we bring into our lives are important and powerful and are seeds that will one day lead to a harvest.

This blog is our attempt to suggest quality resources that are God honoring and that will enrich the life of the reader. Perhaps you are a parent and want your children to be influenced by the higher standards set by those who have followed Christ. Maybe you are married, a parent, or single like us, and are looking for resources for yourself. In any case, we pray that this blog will be a blessing and help to you, as we all press ahead with diligence seeking the Lord and to live lives for His glory.

NOTE TO PARENTS

We’ll do our best to give age recommendations for each resource, as some will be great for the younger reader and others will be geared toward a more mature audience. But you, as the parent, will have more understanding of your individual child with his or her personality, knowledge, and sensitivities. So, with that understanding and with the Holy Spirit leading you, you’ll have to decide what resources will be best for your child.

DISCLAIMER

There is only one book that is perfectly balanced and without error; that is, of course, the Bible. Please understand that while we are careful with the resources we recommend on this site, it’s possible we might share a resource with you that overall is great, but may contain aspects that we personally would disagree with. We will leave it up to you to use wisdom and discernment from the Holy Spirit and Scripture as you are reading.

It’s also possible that although we might love a particular resource, we might not agree with other works published by the same author or company. Or we may differ with a certain author’s or company’s beliefs, yet find that for a particular subject they do an excellent job.
